Understand, analyze and anticipate the dynamics of international trade order
Instructor: Prof. Deepanshu Mohan et al.Language: English
This certificate course covers key issues that shape global trade in the contemporary world and aims to answer some of the pressing questions facing policymakers and citizens in the 21st century. It combines theoretical and practical approaches to understand the political and economic dimensions of international trade.
The course is organised around three key segments. The first two modules cover the key theoretical underpinnings of trade along with the major agreements and the institutions. The third module deals with contemporary developments in international trade and analyses the increasing shift from multilateralism towards regional trade agreements. It brings in an understanding of the impact of issues such as COVID-19, Russia- Ukraine crisis and US -China trade war on global economic relations.
Important Dates
Application Deadline: 4th November, 2022
Orientation: 30th October, 2022
Course Begins: 5th November 2022
How will the geopolitical rivalry among China, Russia and the United States impact global trade? What does the WTO deadlock mean for developed and developing nations? How is China shaping the global economic order? How does climate change affect world trade? How has COVID-19 altered the global political economy?
Historically we have witnessed that the world has been moving increasingly towards greater inter-connectivity through advances in transport, communications, technology and trade. While there have been criticisms of globalisation as an instrument to promote Western hegemony,
but there have not been any major challenges to the ‘New World Order’, till about the last two decades. The 2008 financial crisis, the rise of China, the WTO deadlock, the recent pandemic and the ongoing Russia Ukraine crises are a series of events that now seem to have undermined the confidence in the western liberal vision of ‘the world as a global village’.
In today’s interconnected world, it therefore becomes increasingly important to understand the key trends of the global economy and gain the necessary insight to unpack the impact for the present and the future.
